Unique Lodging in the Laurentians: Our 20 Treehouses, No Two Alike

Twenty treehouses on Lac Cordon, near Mont-Tremblant, and no two are alike. We build around what the land already holds, so each one fits its own spot in the forest.

The Idea: Built to Fit the Forest

We are Les Refuges Perchés, a lakeside treehouse eco-resort near Mont-Tremblant, offering the best eco-lodging in the Laurentians. We have 20 treehouses, and no two are alike. That is not by chance: we build around what the land already holds. A boulder, a cliff, the angle of the sun, the trees that are already there. Each treehouse fits its own spot. Building small and leaving a small footprint is exactly what makes all 20 of our treehouses unique.

Our 20 Treehouses Are All Different

Our treehouses sit in two sectors, on either side of Lac Cordon: Lakeside East (treehouses 1 to 10) and Lakeside West (treehouses 11 to 20). Some are perched on a boulder or a cliff, others take unexpected shapes like the octagon, or are connected to suspended bridges or platforms in the trees. All face south to catch the sun, with plenty of windows so you stay close to the trees even from inside. You choose your treehouse, and with it your view, your sector, and your vibe.

It's really impressive to see all the different treehouse designs. We are avid backcountry canoe campers, so we found this to be much easier and also provided a unique experience for our family.

Each treehouse has its own style. Many have terraces, catwalks, or platforms built around a tree, with views that change from one treehouse to the next.

The treehouse had a catwalk off the deck that led to another small deck built around a tree that offered amazing views.

If you are after privacy, some treehouses sit further from the reception building on purpose.

Treehouse #19, just over a kilometre from reception, for those who like privacy and quiet. We will be back without hesitation!

A Sustainable Approach, Backed by Facts

Our treehouses sit inside Parc Éco-Laurentides, a 2,000-acre protected natural territory. The way we occupy the site is built around keeping that land wild. We practice Leave No Trace principles, we are carbon neutral via Planetair, and we are certified eco-responsible with Les Pages Vertes. Our treehouses are built by hand with local, environmentally friendly materials. Each treehouse is set up for recycling and composting, and we have launched a propane bottle recycling program with our municipality. Cars do not go past the reception building.

I appreciated the sink in the treehouse for washing dishes and the way grey water is managed. We felt the park fees as well as the fees for our accommodations were more than fair.

Living off-grid changes how you stay, in a quiet way. When you carry your own water from the dock and feed your own wood stove, you notice right away how much you actually use. In the tradition of back-country refuges, you leave the treehouse and the surroundings as you found them for the next guests.

Within the much welcome 'Leave No Trace', neatly minimalist, nature-first, approach. It forces you to think about resource consumption in the best way possible.

On site, panels explain how to use the gas and wood stoves and about our environmental impact, and a small interpretation centre has facilities for families and school groups.

What This Means for Your Stay

Our treehouses are completely off-grid, reached on foot only, and you bring your gear in by cart, toboggan, or canoe. Inside, they are insulated and heated with a wood stove, furnished with comfortable beds, and equipped for cooking. It is a hands-on stay: you start your own fire, cook on a propane cooktop, and manage your own water. The wood stove heats up quickly and keeps the treehouse comfortable through the night.

A comfortable adventure even when the temperature drops.

A wonderful experience at Refuges Perchés, despite extremely cold temperatures (-30°C at night). You need to add a log every two hours, but that is part of the charm of this adventure.

Top tip: Lakeside East is closer to the reception (about 500 m), Lakeside West is further and uphill (about 1.5 km, roughly 20 minutes). The trail has hills, so we recommend packing light, or planning two trips if your cart is heavily loaded.

And at the end of the trail, the reward is waiting.
