A campfire at Les Refuges Perchés
  • 1 pack of eco logs is included for each night during your visit, ready for you to collect at the gazebo after you have checked in.
  • If you wish to have a campfire, or you need more wood to heat your treehouse, we sell firewood (self-serve at the gazebo, honour system, charges applied to your account).
  • Newspaper and kindling are included at no charge, located at the gazebo.
  • It is forbidden by the government to transport your own firewood from one region to another, as this can bring invasive species that can harm a forest.
  • You may bring bagged wood purchased from a store.

The treehouses are small, well insulated, and heat very efficiently

  • Do not try to heat your treehouse when the outside temperature is 10 degrees Celsius or more, as it is impossible to control the heat with a wood-burning stove.

  • Please note it takes 1.5 to 2 hours to heat your treehouse.

Managing the heat

  • You have built many fires in a wood stove... this is for you.
  • You have never built a fire in a wood stove... this is for you.
  • Starting a fire in a wood stove is straightforward; managing the heat in the treehouses takes timing and patience.
  • Do not make a fire in your wood stove above 6 to 7°C, there is no way to manage the heat and you will create a sauna!
  • If it’s warmer outside, open the windows and exchange the air.
  • Body heat and cooking will also help to warm up your treehouse.

Here is how to find the rhythm:

  1. Build your fire according to the SAFETY and directions pinned to the wall of your treehouse.
  2. Only put one log onto the fire once you feel the treehouse begins to cool slightly.
  3. Eco logs can be broken in two on the edge of the treehouse’s exterior staircase.
  4. Bedtime: do you like the temperature? Yes? Then do not put a log on the fire. At this stage you will create a sauna! It is much more comfortable to sleep when your treehouse is slightly cool than overheated. (Our guests always overheat their treehouse the first night!)
  5. You will need to get up in the night to maintain the heat in the wood stove. Too hot? Open 2 windows and create a draft in the treehouse.
  6. Find the rhythm of the wood stove according to the outside temperature and wind.
